KEENE, N.H. 1/24/02- Freshman Jason Levecque (Westbrook, Me.)had a season-high 19 points and Dave Stantial (Beverly, MA.) finished with 18 points to lead the Keene State College men's basketball team to a non-conference 111-73 victory over Southern Vermont College Thursday in Keene.
With the victory, Keene State (15-1) set a school record for consecutive wins (12). The previous mark of 11 wins was set by the 1979-80 team. Southern Vermont falls to 10-6. "It's a nice feather in the cap for the team," said KSC Coach Rob Colbert. "But we have higher goals for the program."
The Owls jumped out to a 25-8 lead 12 minutes into the game and never looked back on the way to building a 54-31 halftime cushion. Levecque, who came in for an injured Derek Swenson, scored 15 points in the first half.
Pierce Jackson (Kennebunk, Me.) (12 points), Chris Timson (Beverly, MA.) (11 points), and Brandon Johanson (Hopewell Junction, NY) (10 points) also scored in double figures for KSC. Kyle Purinton (Northwood, NH) had a team-high nine rebounds.
Charles Beekman (Amsterdam, NY) led the Mountaineers with 23 points.
It was the first meeting between the two teams.
Keene State returns to Little East play on Saturday when it travels to Southern ME for a 3 p.m. game.
