'KEENE, N.H. - 10/23/02- Playing its final home regular-season
match of the season, the Keene State College women's volleyball
defeated Fitchburg State College 3-0 in a non-conference
match held Wednesday at Spaulding Gym.
The Owls won the match handily by games scores of 30-17, 30-15,
and 30-9.
It was the sixth win in the last seven matches for KSC (9-5).
Fitchburg State falls to 8-11.
One of six seniors on the squad, Kristin Mullins (Turners Falls,
MA.) had a fine all-around game for the Owls with nine kills, eight
digs, 4 blocks and a record-tying 16 service aces. "It was
all about reaching high and making contact at the right point,"
said Mullins, who tied a mark set by Erin Scutt in the 1996 season.
"I was in a zone tonight."
Deb Hughes (Ashland, N.H.) added seven kills, three aces and
four blocks while Abbe Robichaud (Gilford, N.H.).) finished with
nine kills, two aces, six digs and one block.
Seniors Mullins, Hughes, and Robichaud along with Sandra Holly
(Meredith, N.H.) Katie Shea (Turners Falls, MA.) and Brita Sawyer
(Ashland, N.H.) were honored prior to the start of the game.
Keene State will travel to UMA-Dartmouth for a key Little East
round-robin match on Saturday (1 p.m.). Victories over UMD and
UMA-Boston would enable the Owls to finish fourth in the standings
and host a first-ever LEC Tournament game at Spaulding Gym.
