'KEENE, N.H. 11/13/02 - Annie Timson's (Derry, N.H.) goal with
12:45 to play lifted Keene State College to a 2-1 come-from-behind
victory over Babson College in a ECAC quarterfinal field hockey
game played Wednesday in Keene, N.H.
With the victory KSC (15-8) advances to the semifinal round
where they will play the winner of the Clark/Endicott College game
on Saturday.
Deb Morris (Canton, MA.) gave Babson a quick 1-0 lead when she
scored on a rebound just over a minute into the game.
After missing several scoring opportunities in the first half,
KSC finally got on the board six minutes into the second half on a
penalty corner goal by Kaitlin Henley (Somers, N.Y.). "It came
across and I just swept it in," said Henley describing her eighth
goal of the season.
The game-winner by Timson, her team-leading 16th of the season,
also came on a penalty corner opportunity. "They were defending the
high pass and Justina (Wentworth) sent it down to me for the goal,"
said Timson. It's my senior year, I wanted to keep the season
going."
The Beavers had a couple of good opportunities to tie the
game. Shannon Hawley (Shrewsbury, MA.) just missed the near
post with a shot and KSC goalie Amy Carroll (Brunswick, ME) kicked
away a drive by Kristy Mellinger (Stratsbury, PA) with 6:40 to
play.
Carroll had six saves for KSC while Colleen Kelly (Limerick, PA)
stopped eight shots for Babson, which concludes its season with a
14-9 record.
"We had a shaky start, but we were able to capitalize in the
second half," said KSC Coach Amy Watson. "We're at the play
until you lose stage. This was a tough match-up #4 vs. #5 and could
have gone either way. To get this win at home was nice.
In its last ECAC appearance in 2000, KSC lost to Clark (3-2) in
a semifinal game.
