'KEENE, N.H. 11/30/02 – Host Keene State
College and Western New England College advanced to the
championship game of the 7TH Annual KSC Holiday Tournament with
first-round victories on Saturday at Spaulding Gym.
Keene State rolled past UME-Fort Kent 99-38 in Saturday's first
game. Anna Hollerich (Edina, Minn.) had a career-high 12
points and Mary Crawford (Mt. Holly, Vt.) and Christina Page
(Sutton, MA.) finished with 10 points each to lead the Owls (3-1).
Hayley Alaimo (Ellington, CT) added nine points and a team-high
seven rebounds and Shannon Clarke had six assists.
The outcome of the game was never in doubt as KSC built up a
30-6 lead and held a 60-24 advantage at halftime. The Owls
were on fire in the half hitting 24 of 38 shots including seven of
12 three-point attempts. Fourteen KSC players got on the
scoring sheet.
Melissa Hare (Miramichi, NB) had 10 points to lead ME Fort Kent
(2-2). The KSC/WNEC championship game will be played Sunday at 3
p.m.
Emily Sward (Plainville, CT) and Lisa Masella (Newton, CT) had
16 points each to lead Western New England College to a 63-54
victory over Worcester State College in the second game. Jamie
Carmey (Orleans, MA.) also added nine rebounds for WNEC.
With the score tied 37-all at the 11:41 mark of the second half,
the Golden Bears (3-0) went on a 9-0 run to take a 46-37 lead on a
basket by Sward. Worcester State cut the lead to 57-50 in the
final minute of play, but they would get no closer.
Donna Zwemke (Ware, MA.) had 15 points and 10 rebounds and
Amanda Kowal (Oxford, MA.) finished with 13 points to lead
Worcester State (2-2).
WSC will face ME-Fort Kent in the Tournament's consolation game
at 1 p.m. on Sunday. KSC has won the Holiday Tournament five
out of the six years it has been played.
