KEENE, N.H. 2/27/02 - Playing in their final home games at
Spaulding Gym senior captains Sarah Linn (Brattleboro, Vt.) had 16
points and Erika Forsberg (Laconia, NH) finished with 14 points and
a game-high 13 rebounds to lead the Keene State College women's
basketball team to a 73-58 victory over Colby-Sawyer College in a
quarterfinal ECAC Division III Tournament game played Wednesday in
Keene.
Fourth seed Keene State (17-10) will travel to Plymouth State,
where they will face the top seeded Panthers (19-8) in a semifinal
game on Saturday at 1 p.m. PSC defeated eighth seed Coast Guard
85-65 in its opening round game. It will be the third meeting
between KSC and PSC this season.
After the fifth seeded Chargers scored the first six points of
the game, the Owls answered with a 32-4 run over the next nine
minutes to take a 32-10 lead with 5:28 to play in the first half.
Leading 36-22 at the break, KSC took its biggest lead of 20
points (57-37) midway in the second half. The Chargers however
would come charging back, closing the deficit to eight points
(62-54) with five minutes remaining. But the Owls outscored CSC
11-4 in the final minutes of the game to secure the victory.
Aly Araque (Hopewell Junction, NY) added 14 points and Cathy
Mechare (Falls Village, CT) finished with 10 points for KSC.
Julie Ann Sheehan (Hudson, MA.) had a game high 21 points and 10
rebounds and Ashley Bramwell (Marshfield, MA.) added 16 points to
lead Colby-Sawyer, which finishes its season with a 18-10 mark.
It was the first meeting between the two teams since the 1997-98
season.
Keene State last played in the ECAC Tournament back in the
1992-93 season when it was a Division II member.
