DANBURY, CT 2/9/02 - Then Keene State College women's basketball
team took another step closer to earning a home first-round LEC
tournament game with a 62-47 victory over Western Connecticut State
University in Danbury, CT, on Saturday.
Senior Erika Forsberg (Laconia, NH) had 14 points and 13
rebounds to lead Keene State. Nicole Fargione (Colonie, NY.) had a
strong game off the bench, finishing with nine points and eight
rebounds. Lindsay Johnson topped WCSU with 12 points.
It was the fourth win in the last five games for the Owls (14-8,
7-5 LEC). Western CT drops to 10-12, 4-8 LEC). KSC swept both games
against WCSU this season.
Trailing 32-27 at half time, KSC limited the Colonials to just
15 second half points. The Owls put the game away with a 18-2 run
early in the half. KSC went from a 36-33 deficit to a 51-38 lead on
a Aly Araque (Hopewell Junction, NY) basket at the 5:25 mark.
Keene State returns home to face rival Plymouth State in a key
LEC game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
