Owl Softball Team Splits Pair With MA. College

NORTH ADAMS, MA.  4/10/02 - Back on the field for the first time since March 30, the Keene State College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader  against MA. College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, MA. on Wednesday.

The Mohawks scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to post a 2-0 win over the Owls in the opener. MCLA their runs on an error by KSC leftfielder Adria Reynolds.

Missy Zimmerman (3-2) was the tough luck loser for the Owls.  She struck out eight and didn't allow a walk.  Reynolds had a pair of hits for KSC, which finished the game with six hits. The Owls best opportunity to score came in the top of the sixth when Caroline Kurkowski and Reynolds singled, but they were stranded.

Jenn Golden pitched the shutout for MCLA.

Nikki Foote scored the go-ahead run on an throwing error in the top of the seventh inning as KSC edged MA. College 4-3 in the second game.  Foote, who opened the inning with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice and moved to third on a fielder's choice.

Kurkowski had a two run double in a three run first inning for the owls. MCLA came right back to tie the game with three runs in the bottom of the frame.


Katie Thompson pitched six and a third inning to get the win (5-1) before giving way to Zimmerman who got the final two outs in the seventh for her third save of the season.


Keene State returns home to face Westfield State (3 p.m.) in a twinbill on Thursday.
