Owl Softball Team Sweeps UMA-Dartmouth

KEENE, N.H.. 4/20/02 - Keene State College had 24 hits, including two home runs from Jennifer Norman (Penacook, NH) and got solid starting pitching from Melissa Zimmerman  (Leyden, MA.) and Katie Thompson (Stratham, NH) in a sweep (11-3 and 6-1) of a Little East Conference softball doubleheader over UMA-Dartmouth in Keene on Saturday.

KSC, which snapped a two game losing streak, improves to 15-8-2 (3-4-1 LEC) while UMA-Dartmouth goes to 13-13 (3-7 LEC).

The Owls scored three runs in the first inning on the way to taking the opener 11-3 in a five-inning contest.  Norman, a freshman, finished with three hits, including her first collegiate home run, and three RBIs and Nicole Foote (Hudson, N.H.)  had two hits and three RBIs to lead the KSC offense. Shauna Mullen (Hooksett, NH) and Melissa Provost (Ludlow, MA.) also collected two hits each.

Chrystal Allock (New Bedford, MA.) led the Corsairs with two hits.

Zimmerman scattered seven hits and struck out four to even her record at 4-4. Sara Charbonneau (New Bedford, MA.) took the loss for UMD.

Adria Reynolds (Portsmouth, N.H.), Kerry Marsh (Plainfield, NH) and Norman all cracked home runs in a 6-1 second game victory by the Owls.  Reynolds had a two run blast and Norman hit a solo shot as KSC took a 4-0 lead in the third.

Marsh's home run, her first of the season came in the fifth inning.

Thompson gave up just three hits and struck out five in her six innings on the mound. She improved her record to 7-2.  Stephanie Carter (Cohoes, NY) pitched the last inning.

Mary Beth Lima (Norton, MA.) was the losing pitcher for the Corsairs. Her record goes to 3-7.

KSC will host Eastern CT in another key LEC doubleheader on Sunday at noon.
