Freshmen Pitchers Lead Owls' Sweep Of UMA-Bos.

BOSTON, MA 4/23/02 - Meghan McLoughlin (Brattleboro, Vt.) tossed a five inning one-hitter in the opener and Stephanie Cater (Cohoes, N.Y.) allowed just one hit in her five innings on the mound in the second game as Keene State College swept a Little East Conference softball doubleheader (10-1 and 9-0) over UMA-Boston on Tuesday.





Keene State improves to 18-9-2 (6-5-1 LEC) while UMA-Boston drops to 4-23 (0-12 LEC).





McLoughlin fanned three and walked one to even her record at 2-2 with her opening game win. The Owls plated five runs in the first inning with Caroline Kurkowski (Niskayuna, N.Y.) knocking in a run with a double and Elizabeth Burdette (West Lebanon, N.H.) delivering a three-run double.





Shauna Mullen (Hooksett, N.H.) also had three RBIs in the game.





Carter improved her record to 3-0 with her five inning one hitter in the nightcap. The freshman struck out six and walked one.





The Owls scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Kerry Marsh, who had a run-scoring single in the inning also, had a RBI double in the fifth.





KSC plated four more runs in the sixth inning to go up 9-0 when the game was stopped due to the eight run rule.





Keene State will be at Williams College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.)
