'NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA 1/18/03 – Devon
Maiorano scored 24 points and Brian Cagle had 19 points and 15
rebounds to lead UMA-Dartmouth to a 94-84 victory over Keene State
College in a Little East Conference men's basketball game played
Saturday at the Tripp Athletic Center.
It was the second straight LEC loss for the Owls who fall to
10-3 and 3-2 in the conference. UMD improves to 6-7 overall
and 2-3 in the LEC.
Five KSC players scored in double figures. Sean Sullivan
(Athol, MA.) led the way with 13 points. Derek Swenson
(Attleboro, MA.) and Matt Wheeler (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) had 12 points
each, and Chris Timson (Beverly, MA.) and Alphonse Michalski
(Northampton, MA.) each had 10 points. Bennett Pawlusiak
(Manchester, N.H.) topped KSC in rebounds with seven.
The Owls dug themselves a hole they could not get out of in the
game. Falling behind by 10 points at the half (41-31), KSC
was outscored 22-7 coming out of the break and trailed by as many
as 25 points (63-38) with 16:03 to play.
Using its full court press, KSC fought back to get the deficit
down to seven points. A three-pointer by Sullivan made it an
80-73 game with 2:30 to play. But the Owls got no closer.
KSC, which hit just three of 26 three-point shots, could not
take advantage of the Corsairs' poor free throw shooting (28-49).
"We didn't come to play and got our tails kicked," said KSC
Coach Rob Colbert. "We played tentative in the first 10
minutes and dug ourselves into a hole.
I'm really disappointed in the way we played," he added. :
We're going to find a way to break this trend."
KSC travels to Eastern CT on Tuesday night for a 7:30 p.m. LEC
game.
