'WILLIMANTIC, CT 1/21/03 – The Keene State
College women's basketball team had its five game winning streak
snapped with 89-58 Little East Conference loss against #18 ranked
Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, CT, on
Tuesday.
Keene State falls to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in the LEC while
Eastern CT improves to 14-2 and 5-1 in conference play.
Deanne Prior had 20 points to lead the Warriors. Allison
Coleman also had a strong overall game for ECSU with 18 points, 11
rebounds, five assists and four steals. The junior forward hit
seven of her nine shots from the field.
Brittany Faulkner (Lebanon, N.H.) led the Owls with eight
points. Andrea Arsenault (Dover, N.H.) had a team high five
rebounds.
Eastern CT jumped out to a 12-4 lead on the way to building up a
46-23 halftime advantage. Poor shooting, turnovers, and defensive
lapses in transition led to the Owls' demise. The Warriors
meanwhile were on top of their game, finishing with a .574 shooting
percentage (35 of 61) and out rebounding KSC by a wide 43-25
margin.
KSC hopes to turn its fortunes around when it travels to New
England College on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.
