KEENE, N.H. 11/22/03- Tournament MVP Bekka Hopkins (Oxford,
Mass.) had a career-high 19 points, including five three-point
baskets, to lead Keene State to a 67-53 victory over St. Joseph's
of Maine in the Championship of the 8th Annual KSC Women's Tip-Off
Tournament, Saturday at Spaulding Gym. The Owls have won the
event seven times including the last six years.
With the scored knotted at 29-all, KSC (2-0) used its strong
defense to go on a 12-1 run in the first five minutes of the second
half to pull away from the Lady Monks (1-1). During that time, KSC
was also hitting several three-pointers Hopkins and Cathy Mechare
(Falls Village, Conn.) both nailed a pair of three-pointers to key
the surge.
Brianne Barnes (Merrimack, N.H.) and Stacey Morse (Lebanon,
N.H.) each finished with 10 points while Andrea Arsenault (Dover,
N.H.) had a game-high 14 rebounds.
Laura Pelkey and Morgan Brownlee led St. Joseph's with 14 points
each.
Framingham State rolled past Thomas College 73-36 in the
consolation contest.
The All-Tournament team included: Hopkins (KSC), Barnes (KSC)
and Arsenault (KSC), Margaret Blauvelt (St. Joseph's) and Brownlee
(St. Joseph's), and Colleen Kennedy (Framingham State).
KSC travels to Mass. College on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
