'KEENE, N.H. 2/15/03 – Hayley Alaimo
(Ellington, CT) had 21 points, including five three-pointers to
lead Keene State College to a 65-56 victory over Western
Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference women's
basketball game played Saturday in Keene.
Keene State improves to 14-9 overall and 6-6 in the LEC while
Western CT falls to 8-15 (4-8) LEC.
Leading by four (35-31) at the break, KSC didn't pull away from
the Colonials until late in the second half. A pair of
baskets by Stacey Morse (Lebanon, N.H.) put the Owls up by 12
(53-41) with 6:33 to go. Back-to-back three-pointers by
WCSU's Tory Anderton (Ridgefield. CT) and Alva Jeffries
(Bridgeport, CT) and a free throw by Jayme Beckham (Newtown, CT)
cut the lead down to five (53-48) with 5:06 to play.
KSC regrouped with an 8-2 run that pushed the lead back up to 11
(61-50) with 2:50 left on the clock. Andrea Arsenault (Dover,
N.H.) hit a couple of key baskets in that stretch.
Arsenault finished with 14 points and eight rebounds and Julie
Tardif (Atkinson, N.H.) added 14 points and nine rebounds for the
Owls.
Anderton scored 18 points and Chrsitin Morgatto (Seymour, CT)
finished with a game-high 18 rebounds to lead the Colonials. WCSU
had 38 turnovers in the game.
KSC swept the two game series against WCSU this season, winning
75-67 earlier in Danbury.
Keene State will play at rival Plymouth State on Tuesday (5:30
p.m.).
