Softball Team Spilts Pair In Fla.

'FORT MYERS, FLA. 3/18/03 – The Keene State College softball team split its first two games on Tuesday at Fort Myers, Fla.   After losing to Amherst College 3-1, the Owls came back to blank Trinity (CT) College 8-0 in their second game.

Keene State (4-1) will play a make-up game against Pine Manor College tonight at 9 p.m.

It was a frustrating first game for the Owls who had two runners on base in four different innings.  Going up against Amherst pitcher Jo Warner, KSC pushed across a run in the seventh inning on a bases-loaded RBI single from Abby Blanchette (Webster, N.H.).

Blanchette had two of the Owls' three hits in the game.

Katie Thompson (Stratham, N.H.), who gave up all three runs and eight hits, took the loss on the mound.

Jen Smith (Salem, N.H.) tossed a complete game one hitter and KSC collected 10 hits in the five-inning shutout win over Trinity.

KSC broke the game open with a six-run third inning.  Shauna Mullen (Hooksett, N.H.) knocked in three with a bases-clearing triple, and Stephanie Carter (Cohoes, N.Y.) and Kerry Marsh (Meriden, N.H.) had run producing hits in the inning.

Jennifer Norman (Penacook, N.H.), Mullen and Marsh finished the game with two hits each.
