'KEENE, N.H. 3/2/03– Keene State College's Haley
Alaimo scored her 1,000-career point in the Owls' 53-48 loss to the
University of Southern ME in the semifinals of the Little East
Conference Tournament Friday night in Gorham, ME.
"It's a great feeling of accomplishment and a nice way to end my
Keene State basketball career," said the senior forward from
Ellington, CT
"I knew I was close entering the game, Alaimo added. My sister
let it slip."
Needing 15 points to reach the milestone, Alaimo didn't get her
1,000-point until the final minute of the game. "I was getting a
little bit nervous," said Alaimo, who hit consecutive shots to put
her over the top.
"I think it just shows her persistence," said KSC coach Keith
Boucher about Alaimo. "She worked very hard since her
freshman year and became one of the program's top three-pointer
shooters.
Alaimo becomes the 14th KSC women's player to join the
1,000-point club. Scoring the majority of her points beyond
the arc, Alaimo, who leads the Owls in scoring with a 14.0 average,
is also third all-time in three-point baskets made with 210.
Alaimo is hoping to add to her point total. Finishing third in
the Little East Conference with a 16-11record, KSC is awaiting a
possible invitation to the ECAC Tournament on Monday.
