'KEENE, N.H. 4/17/02 – Williams College
swept a non-conference softball doubleheader against host Keene
State on Thursday. Williams took game one 8-1, and then won game
two 1-0 after being called after six innings due to darkness. With
the sweep Williams is now (10-12), Keene State falls to (13-8).
The story of the day was the Williams pitchers who stymied the
Keene State batters all day. Senior Katherine Baldwin got the nod
in the first game and pitched the complete seven innings for the
win, allowing only one run and no walks while striking out eight
batters. Bladwin helped herself at the plate going three-for-four
with an RBI. Mary Baccash added two hits and two RBIs.
Abby Blanchette (Webster, N.H.) , who doubled and singled,
scored the Owls' only run in the fifth when she was knocked in by
Jennifer Norman (Penacook, N.H.).
Jennifer Smith (Salem, N.H.)(2-1) took the pitching loss
for KSC.
Game two was a pitching dual between the KSC Meghan McLoughlin
(Brattleboro, VT.) and Eph's Clara Hard..
Williams scored the games lone run in the top of the fifth on a
RBI double to center by Alana Frost.
KSC's only hit came in the sixth inning, a double by Kerry Marsh
(Meriden, N.H.) The Owls advanced runners to third in the fifth and
sixth innings but could not plate the tying run.
McLoughlin, who walked two and fanned two, was the hardluck
loser for KSC. She is 2-1 on the season.
KSC is at UMA-Dartmouth on Saturday (1 p.m.).
