'KEENE, N.H. 9/16/03 - Senior Tanya Strong (Hatfield,
Mass.) and freshman Nichole Garneau (Carroll, N.H.) had two goals
each to help the Keene State College field hockey team roll to a
7-1 non-conference victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at
Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday.
With the score tied 1-1, the Owls (2-2) broke the game open with
three goals within a two-minute and 22 second span midway in the
first half. Garneau finished off a feed from Strong to make
it 2-1 and 20 seconds later Strong knocked in Garneau's rebound to
put KSC up 3-1. Garneau ended the flurry with her second goal
of the game on a pass from Amy Pokrywka (Roxbury, Conn.).
Strong now has a team-high four goals while Garneau netted her
first two college tallies.
Michelle McInerney (Hampton, N.H.), Pokrywka, and Steph
Georgevits (Concord, N.H.) added second half goals.
It was most goals scored by KSC since they defeated Framingham
State 7-0 in 2000.
Laurie Young (Camden, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for RPI (3-2)
Michelle Codding (Jericho, Vt.) with four saves and
Caitlin Baril (Canton, Mass.) who stopped two shots, both saw
action in goal for KSC. Amanda Lund (Chester, Conn.) finished
with 15 saves for the Red Hawks.
KSC host Fitchburg State in its first LEC game of the season on
Saturday (1:30 p.m.) .
