'Keene, N.H. 9/20/03 - The Keene State College women's
volleyball team a posted a 1-2 record at this weekend's Little East
Round Robin matches in Spaulding Gym on Friday and Saturday.
Keene State lost a 3-0 match to Plymouth State University on
Friday night. Games scores were 30-18, 30-23, and 30-22. KSC
goes to 4-4 and 1-2 in the LEC.
In Saturday's first match, the Owls defeated Southern Maine 3-1
to notch its first LEC victory. The match scores were 30-15,
30-28, 23-30, and 30-18. Owl leaders included: Shelly Ellis
(Hampton, N.H.) 12 kills, four aces, 13 digs, one block; Lauren
Graham (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) 37 assists, nine aces, 13 digs, one
block; and Stacey Kroon (Bryantville, Mass) added 10 kills, nine
blocks.
In their second match, Keene State lost 3-0 to defending
conference champion Western Conn. After losing the first game
18-30, the Owls staged a comeback but couldn't come up with a
victory, losing 30-27 and 30-28. Nicole Geyselaers (Cornwall
Bridge, Conn.) had six kills, two digs, and five blocks; Kroon
added six kills, one assist, five aces, 13 digs, one block; Graham
finished with five kills, one ace, 15 digs, and two blocks.
KSC will play next at Colby-Sawyer on
Wednesday.
In other matches, Western Conn. edged Plymouth State 3-2.
The match scores were 27-30, 30-25, 30-22, 28-30, and 15-9.
Western Conn. leaders were: Sandy Ramos (Newington, Conn.) 14
kills, three blocks; Dawn Dommermuth (New Fairfield, Conn.) added
eight kills and four blocks. Plymouth leaders included: Becky
Landry (Nashua, N.H.) 22 kills, 17 digs; Carin LaValley
(Northfield, N.H.) 16 kills, 19 digs; and Kelly Landry (Nashua,
N.H.) added nine kills, 18 digs.
Plymouth State later defeated Southern Maine 3-1. Game
scores were 30-15, 28-30, 30-27, and 30-10. K. Landry led the
way for Plymouth with 13 kills, eight digs; B. Landry had 12 kills;
and Amanda Bagwell (Riverside, R.I.) finished with 35 assists, nine
digs. Southern Maine leaders were: Mandy Dessert
(Bridgewater, N.H.) 24 assists; Cassandra Hoban (Mindoro, WI) 24
digs; and Amanda Starkey (Barnstead, N.H.) added 12 kills.
