'KEENE, N.H. 9/27/03 - Tanya Strong (Hatfield, Mass.) had two
goals and Kaitlin Henley (Somers, N.Y.) finished with a goal and
two assists to lead the Keene State College field hockey team to a
5-1 Little East Conference victory over rival Plymouth State
University before a Homecoming crowd at Owl Athletic Complex on
Saturday.
It was the first LEC loss in over four years for the Panther who
fall to 2-4 (1-1 LEC). Keene State improves to 5-3 (3-0 LEC).
KSC was the last team to defeat PSU during the streak back on Sept.
22, 2001.
Keene State took a 1-0 lead on Amanda Rosenbeck's (Wilder, Vt.)
first college goal. After PSC tied the game on a goal by
Shannon SantaMaria (Northfield, N.H.), KSC went ahead for good on
goal by Katy Pokrywka (Roxbury, Conn.) with three minutes to go in
the half.
KSC put the game away with three unanswered goals in the second
half. Tanya Strong scored a pair to give her a team-leading
eight for the season and Henley netted her second of the season.
Michelle Codding (Jericho, Vt.) had six saves for KSC while
Kerry Brady (jefferson, N.H.) had a busy day in goal for the
Panthers with 30 saves.
KSC had a wide 46-9 shot advantage in the game.
KSC is at Middlebury College on Wednesday (4 p.m.).
