KEENE, N.H. 1/15/04 - Freshman guard Bri Barnes
(Merrimack, N.H.) scored a season-best 21 points, including all of
her five three-point shots, and freshman forward Sarah Begnoche
(Millville, Mass.) finished with a season-high 18 points to lead
the Keene State College women's basketball team to a
come-from-behind 64-55 non-conference victory over Middlebury
College at Spaulding Gym on Thursday night.
Barnes and Begnoche also tied with a team-high eight rebounds in
the game.
Keene State improves to 7-5 while Middlebury College falls to
7-3.
Hitting just 11-for-36 shots from the field, Keene State found
itself down by seven at the break (29-22). The Owls utilized their
full court press to get back into the game and forced 33 Panther
turnovers. KSC took the lead for good (42-40) on a three-pointer by
Barnes at the 10:18 mark of the second half.
Keene State extended its advantage to nine points 50-41 on
another three-pointer by Barnes, but Middlebury came back to cut
the deficit to three points (50-47) on a pair of free throws by
Kate Fehsenfeld (Zionsville, IND.) with 6:29 to play.
The Owls pulled away for good with an 11-4 run to take a
10-point lead (61-51) on two Barnes' free throws.
Elyse Carlson (Braintree, Mass.), who hit five three-pointers,
had 19 points to lead the Panthers. Fehsenfeld added 14
points and Alexis Hollinger (New London, N.H.) finished with 10
points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Playing in front of many
friends and family, Keene native Lacey Hebert had five points and
four assists.
Keene State returns to Little East play with a game at Rhode
Island College on Saturday (1 p.m.).
