KEENE, N.H. 10/14/04 - Trinity College spoiled Keene State's
first game on its new turf field with a 2-1 field hockey victory
over the Owls on Thursday night at Owl Athletic Complex.
Keene State (6-6) saw its four game win streak come to an end
while Trinity (7-3) extended its winning streak to three games.
Trinity got on the board at the 25:48 mark of the first half
when Jessica Baker (Middlebury, Conn.) broke down the middle and
put a shot behind KSC goalie Sara Joyce (Hampstead, N.H.) for her
13th goal of the season.
KSC had a chance to knot the score early in the second half when
Rachel Ladd (Bridgewater, Mass.) was set up in front, but her shot
was kicked out by Bantam goalie Courtney Bergh (Pennington, N.J.).
Later in the half, back Amy Pokrywka (Roxbury, Conn.) made a
defensive save on a blast from Baker.
Erin Daly (Garden City, N.Y.) gave Trinity a 2-0 at the 57:19
mark when she blasted a shot from the top of the circle on a
penalty corner play.
KSC cut the lead in half five minutes later when Nichole Garneau
(Carroll, N.H.) tipped Katy Pokrywka's (Roxbury, Conn.) past Bergh
for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. The Owls, who
pressured the Bantams the rest of the way, were unable to get the
equalizer.
"We had butterflies like an opening night," said KSC co-captain
Tiffany Underhill (Easton, Mass.). "It's a whole different game on
turf." "It was awesome to be back on turf, this was our adjustment
game," said Garneau. "I'm sure we'll improve with more games on the
surface."
Joyce finished with six saves while Bergh made four saves for
Trinity.
