KEENE, N.H. 10/16/04 - The Keene State College volleyball team
posted a 2-0 record at this weekend's tri-match between
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and the University of New
England on Parent/Family Weekend at Spaulding Gymnasium.
In their opening match of the day, KSC (8-9) swept MCLA 3-0
(30-18, 30-16, and 30-27). Junior defensive specialist Lynn
Therrien (Rochester, N.H.) led the Owls with 22 digs in the game.
Shelly Ellis (Hampton, N.H.) added seven kills.
UNE swept a three game match over Mass. College in the middle
contest. Game scores were 30-22, 30-18, and 30-10. Sophomore Rachel
Seawards (Rollinsford, N.H.) had 12 kills, seven service aces, and
15 digs; junior Kelsey Walton (Meredith, N.H.) dished out 22
assists, four kills, and nine digs, while Michelle Clark (Salem,
Mass.) finished with eight kills to lead the Nor'easters. Top
hitters for MCLA were sophomores Danielle Smith (Kinderhook, N.Y.)
with 18 digs, and Geneva Smith (Tauton, Mass.) with 10 digs and
five kills.
KSC defeated UNE (3-2) in a tough five-game match in the finale.
After dropping the first match 28-30, the Owls rallied to take the
second 30-26. The teams traded wins in the next two matches with
UNE taking the third game 30-28, and Keene State winning the final
two 30-23, and 15-12. Ellis led the Owls with 25 digs and 15 kills.
Freshman Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls, Mass.) chipped in with 39
assists, and Genna Florkowski (East Northport, N.Y.) finished with
nine service aces.
Keene State hosts Trinity College on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
