KEENE, N.H. 10/20/04 - The Keene State College field hockey team
went into sole possession of first place in the Little East
Conference with a 3-1 victory over Westfield State College at Owl
Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.
Winners of seven out of their last eight games, KSC improves to
9-6 (7-1 LEC). Westfield State falls to 9-4 (5-3 LEC).
Kaitlin Henley (Somers, N.Y.) gave KSC a 1-0 lead at the 9:11
mark of the first half when she tipped in a centering pass from
Katy Pokrywka.
Marrissa Boccaccio (West Hartford, Conn.) got KSC's second goal
on a perfectly executed corner play. Henley had a chance to extend
the Owls' lead before the end of the half, but her penalty stroke
went wide of the net.
Megan Wolski (Plymouth, Mass.) cut the Owls' lead in half when
she tipped the ball past KSC goalie Sara Joyce (Hampstead, N.H.) at
the 28:43 mark of the second half. Nine minutes later, Nichole
Garneau (Carroll, N.H.) got the goal back for Keene State when she
put in a rebound to make it 3-1.
Joyce finished with three saves for KSC while Kendra Newell
(Groveland, Mass.) had a busy night with 16 saves for WSC.
Keene State will travel to UMass-Dartmouth for an LEC game on
Saturday(1 p.m.).
