NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. 10/23/04 - The Keene State College field
hockey took another step in clinching first place in the Little
East Conference with a 4-1 victory over UMass-Dartmouth on
Saturday. Winners of eight out of their last nine games, KSC (10-6,
8-1 LEC) can claim the top seed in the upcoming LEC tournament with
a win at Salem State next Saturday. UMass-Dartmouth falls to 9-4
(5-3 LEC).
The Owls scored three unanswered goals in the second half,
including a pair by Katy Pokrywka (Roxbury, Conn.) as KSC pulled
away from the Corsairs. It was her team-leading eighth and ninth
goals of the season.
Amanda Rosenbeck (Wilder, Vt.) and Nichole Garneau (Twin
Mountain, N.H.) also scored for Keene State. Erin Langon goal for
UMD knotted the score at 1-1 going into the break.
Sara Joyce (Hampstead, N.H.) had two saves for KSC while Jessica
Tavares stopped 12 shots for the Corsairs.
Keene State returns home to face third ranked Middlebury College
on Sunday (5 p.m.).
