KEENE, N.H. 10/23/04 - The Keene State College volleyball team
posted a 1-1 record at this weekend's Little East Conference Round
Robin matches played at Spaulding Gym.
Keene State (9-11, 3-4 LEC) fell 3-0 to UMass-Dartmouth in its
first match of the day. Game scores were 19-30, 27-30, 27-30.
Shelly Ellis (Hampton, N.H.) led the Owls with 13 digs, 11 kills,
and two service aces. Genna Florkowski (East Northport, N.Y.) had
seven kills and four digs, while Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls,
Mass.) finished with 30 assists, 11 digs, and two kills.
In their second match, KSC swept UMass-Boston, 3-0 (30-22,
30-21, 30-28). Ellis had another strong match for the Owls with 16
kills, 13 digs, and four service aces; Florkowski had 16 digs, nine
kills, and two service aces; Yankowski added 38 assists, eight
digs, and four kills.
In other matches, Western Connecticut swept UMB, 3-0. Match
scores were 30-18, 30-17, and 30-14. Freshman outside-hitter
Tiffany Phoenix (Cresskill, N.J.) had 11 kills, three assists, and
two digs to lead the Colonials. Sophomore Shannon Desmond (Quincy,
Mass.) added 24 digs, and six assists; freshman Krystal Wilson
(Meriden, Conn.) finished with 18 assists and four kills.
UMass-Dartmouth later defeated WCSU, 3-1 (30-21, 28-30, 30-14,
30-17). Western leaders included: Wilson 22 assist and four kills;
Phoenix had 11 kills and three digs; and sophomore Kassie Moore
(Pocasset, Mass.) added 18 digs, three blocks, and two assist.
Keene State will travel to Worcester State College on Tuesday (6
p.m.).
