KEENE, N.H. 10/24/04 - Third ranked Middlebury College scored a
goal in each half on the way to posting a 2-0 non-conference field
hockey win over Keene State College at Owl Athletic Complex on
Sunday evening.
Middlebury, an NCAA Championship finalist last season, remains
undefeated (12-0) while Keene State (10-7) saw its four game
winning streak come to an end.
Middlebury scored the only goal in the first half. At the 12:36
mark, Lauryn Nicasio (Rowayton, Conn.) took a pass from Channing
Weymouth (Plymouth, N.H.) and fired the ball into the far corner of
the net.
KSC goalie Sara Joyce (Hampstead, N.H.) kept it a one-goal game
with several outstanding saves in the half, including back-to-back
stops on Ashley Pullen (Oakland, Me.) and Reid Berrien (Westport,
Conn.).
Middlebury added an insurance goal at the 60:13 mark when Claire
Edelen (Sparks, MD.) scored off a scramble in front of the net.
Joyce finished with 21 saves for the Owls, while Meghan McGillen
(East Harwich, Mass.) made four saves for the Panthers.
Prior to the game, seniors Kaitlin Henley (Somers, N.Y.) and
Kristen Zaluki (North Swanzey, N.H.) were honored for playing in
their final home regular season contest.
Keene State is at Endicott College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).
