SALEM, MASS. 10/30/04 - The Keene State College field hockey
team clinched its second straight Little East Conference regular
championship and the top seed in the upcoming LEC tournament with a
4-0 shutout victory against Salem State College on Saturday.
The Owls (12-7, 9-1) will get a first round bye and host the
lowest remaining seed in a semifinal game on Friday at noon.
"I'm surprised how we've rallied against the odds this year,"
said KSC Coach Amy Watson. "We don't have the standout superstar
we've had in the past, but this team really works well as a unit."
Megan Moran (Derry, N.H.) had two goals and Marrissa Boccaccio
(West Hartford, Conn.) finished with three assists to lead KSC.
Kaitlin Henley (Somers, N.Y.), who scored just a minute into the
game, and Amanda Rosenbeck (Wilder, Vt.) also netted goals for the
Owls.
Eda Jane Matchak made six saves for Salem State while Sara Joyce
(Hampstead, N.H.) saved six shots for KSC.
