'KEENE, N.H. 2/21/04- Keene State College men's and women's
indoor track teams competed at their respective New England
Division III Championships on Saturday.
Junior Dave Bridgewater (Unionville, Conn.) had the top finish
by the Owls at the men's meet held at Bowdoin College in Brunswick,
Maine. Bridgewater placed fourth in the 1,500-meter race with
a time of 3:58.66. Teammate Ryan Gough (Billerica, Mass.)
placed sixth (4:00.26).
Josh Ferenc (Westmoreland, N.H.) finished sixth in the
5,000-meters (15:17.21). KSC's distance medley relay team of
Weston Forsblad (Danville, N.H.), Richard Brooks (Charlotte, Vt.),
Casey Cole (Southbury, Conn.), and Patrick Ard (Kingston, N.H.)
placed fifth in the event (10:32.30).
KSC and Westfield State tied for 13th place with 15
points. Williams College won the team championship with
115.50 points.
A fourth place finish by the 4x800 relay team highlighted the
Owls participation in the women's meet at MIT. Laurie
Yorgensen (Wethersfield, Conn.), Shannon O'Brien (Tilton, N.H.),
Stephanie Gibson (Sanbornton, N.H.), and Erin Landon (Hampton,
Conn.) posted a time of 9:45.57.
In other events, Yorgensen placed sixth (2:18.71) and O'Brien
was seventh (2:19.67) in the 800 meters, and Gibson finished
seventh in the 1,500 (4:59.95).
Hampered by a foot injury, Nicole Geyselaers (Cheshire Conn.)
was eighth in the 55-meter dash (8:01) and triple jump (34-05.75).
The KSC women tallied 14 points to finish 16th in the team
standings. Williams won the title with 154 points.
All Owl competitors who scored (top eight) receive N.E.
Division III track honors.
The DMR and 4x800 teams and O'Brien and Yorgensen (800), Gibson
(1500), and Geyselaers (55 dash and long jump) have all qualified
the open New England Championships next Saturday at Boston
University.
