KEENE, N.H. 4/17/04 - Meghan McLoughlin (Brattleboro, Vt.)
and Erin Fouroli (Warwick, R.I.) both pitched complete game shutout
victories to lead Keene State College to a sweep over
UMass-Dartmouth in a Little East Conference softball doubleheader
played Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex.
McLoughlin tossed a one hitter in the Owls' 4-0 win in the
opener while Fouroli pitched a two-hitter in KSC's 6-0 win in the
second game.
In the first game, Keene State scored all their runs with a four
run fourth inning. Caroline Kurkowski (Niskayuna, N.Y.) had a
RBI single, Abby Collis (Wynantskill, N.Y.) delivered a two-run
double, and Kari Gardner (Grafton, Mass.) had a run-producing
double.
Gardner was three-for-three in the game.
McLoughlin struck out struck out eight and walked two to improve
her record to 6-1.
UMD's only hit was a double by Shannon Allberry (Attleboro,
Mass.) in the second. Jen Ayotte (Swansea, Mass.) (1-6) took the
loss for the Corsairs.
Fouroli, a freshman, fanned six and walked two in the
nightcap. Her record goes to 7-1.
KSC broke open a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning
with five runs. The Owls had three hits and took advantage of
three walks, a past ball and a hit-by-pitch in the inning.
Amanda Foote (Hudson, N.H.) and Jenn Norman (Penacook, N.H.) also
had RBI hits.
Kurkowski and Tiffany Underhill (Eastham, Mass.) had two hits each
for the Owls.
Cheryl Boltruczyk (Sutton, Mass.) and Melissa Tavares
(Dartmouth, Mass.) had the two hits for UMD. Amanda Leal, who
pitched into the sixth inning, took the loss (1-3) for the Corsairs
(2-10, 1-7 LEC).
Winners of nine of the last 10 games, Keene State (17-5, 6-2
LEC) travels to Plymouth State University for an LEC twinbill on
Sunday (2 p.m.).
