KEENE, N.H. 9/11/04 - The Keene State College women's volleyball
team opened its 2004 season with a 3-1 victory over Rivier College.
Game scores were 30-24, 30-18, 24-30, and 30-16.
Rivier, who captured the Great Northeast Conference Championship
and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament last year, begins its
season 0-1.
Freshman setter Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls, MA) had 33
assists, and nine digs to lead the Owls. Junior outside hitter
Shelly Ellis ((Hampton, NH) added 18 kills and Lauren Graham (Port
Jefferson, NY) finished with 16 digs, five kills, and seven service
aces, while University of Southern Maine transfer, Amanda Starkey
(Center Barnstead, NH), had seven kills and three blocks.
Junior outside hitter Marisa Macro (Lincoln, R.I.) had 14 kills,
nine digs; freshman Lindsay Marshall (Tiverton, R.I.) added twelve
digs and seven kills, and junior middle hitter Danielle Rogers
(North Kingstown, R.I.) finished with nine kills and nine digs to
lead the Raiders.
Keene State (1-0) hosts Amherst College on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
