FITCHBURG, MASS. 9/27/04 -Jenn Kelley (Woburn, Mass.) scored
with 5:01 remaining in the second overtime to give Fitchburg State
a dramatic 2-1 victory over Keene State in Little East field hockey
action on Monday. Kelley had forced overtime with just 2:01
remaining in regualtion.
Keene State (2-5, 1-1 LEC) opened the scoring early in the
second half when Katy Pokrywka (Roxbury, Conn.) knocked home a feed
from Kaitlyn Henley (Somers, Conn.) just 3:27 into the second half.
Kelly got the equalizer on a feed from Kristen Frazier (Middleboro,
Mass.).
Both goalenders had several outstaindgs saves in overtime.
Falcon keeper Christina Charron (Grafton, Mass.) saved a penalty
stroke midway through the second overtime and denied another Keene
State bid with a diving save. KSC goalie Michelle Coddings
(Jericho, Vt.) best stop came early in the fisrt overtime period.
Charron had 18 saves for Fitchburg (5-1, 3-0 LEC) while Codding
stopped six shots for KSC.
It was FSC's first win over the Owls since 1999.
Keene State hosts Eastern Conn in a Homecoming game on Saturday
(1:30 p.m.).
