'KEENE, N.H. 10/01/05 - Nichole Garneau (Twin Mountain, N.H.)
scored a pair of goals and Marrissa Boccaccio (West Hartford,
Conn.) had two assists to lead the Keene State College field hockey
team to a 4-0 Little East Conference shutout victory over Eastern
Connecticut State at Owl Athletic Complex on Homecoming Saturday.
It was Keene State's (5-6, 4-2 LEC) third shutout victory in its
last five games. Eastern Conn. drops to 2-8 overall and 1-4
in the conference.
KSC got on the board at the 28:07 mark of the first half when
Boccaccio's shot from the far left corner found Tiffany Underhill
(Eastham, Mass.) in front of the goal. Underhill tapped it
past ECSU goalie Jessica Roberts (Westbook, Conn.) for a 1-0
lead. Garneau netted her first goal of the day
following a flurry of action in front of the net, giving the Owls a
2-0 halftime advantage.
Eastern Conn. turned up the pressure with its best opportunity
to score coming just 35 seconds into the second half when freshman
Jaime Seligmann (Sherman, Conn.) fired a shot that KSC goalie Sara
Joyce (Hampstead, N.H.) stopped at close range.
KSC's Garneau and Amanda Rosenbeck (Wilder, Vt.) tallied a goal
apiece in the second stanza to give the Owls a 4-0 victory.
Joyce with five saves and Jennifer McDougall (Avon, Conn.) with
one save, saw action in goal for Keene State. Roberts (seven
saves) and Damaly Auguste (Stamford, Conn.), who made several
outstanding stops, finished with 11 saves to split the goaltending
for ECSU.
KSC will travel to UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m.
LEC contest, while Eastern Conn. will host Western Conn. State
University Tuesday (4 p.m.).
