'MIDDLEBURY, Vermont 10/23/05 - The Keene State College field
hockey team had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 4-0
non-conference loss to ninth ranked Middlebury College at Kohn
Field on Sunday.
Nina Daugherty gave Middlebury a 1-0 lead at the 26:07 mark of
the first half. The lead remained at one until just 1:43 into the
second half when Daugherty struck again from close range as she
lifted a shot into the cage. Claire Edelen earned assists on both
of Daugherty's goals. Allison Smith made it a 3-0 game just four
minutes later as she took a crossing pass from Channing Weymouth
and scored from the top of the circle. Reid Berrien scored the
game's final goal with 13:41 left to play, giving the Panthers a
4-0 win.
Middlebury out shot Keene State 19-4.
Meghan McGillen made five saves in 66 minutes of work, while
Caitlin Pentifallo was not forced to make any saves in her four
minutes of action for Middlebury. Sara Joyce (Hampstead, N.H.) made
a season-high 17 saves in 54 minutes for Keene State, while
Jennifer McDougal (Avon, Conn.) made a save in the final 16 minutes
of action.
Middlebury returns to action on Tuesday when they host
Rensselaer at 3:30. Keene State (8-8) will host the University of
Southern Maine on Thursday (7 p.m.).
