'BRIDGEWATER, MASS. 10/29/05 - The Keene State College
volleyball team posted a 2-2 record at this weekend's Bridgewater
State College Halloween Classic played in Bridgewater, Mass.
In Friday's opening match, Keene State (15-11) defeated Eastern
Nazarene College, 3-2 (33-31, 25-30, 28-30, 30-25, and
15-5). Genna Florkowski (East Northport, N.Y.)
led KSC with 17 kills and 16 digs. Shelly Ellis (Hampton,
N.H.) had 14 kills, while Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls, Mass.)
finished with 10 kills.
In their second match of the day, the Owls beat U.S. Merchant
Marine Academy, 3-1. After taking the first two games 30-27
and 31-29, Keene State dropped its third match 24-30, but rallied
to win the final match 30-25. Florkowski had another strong
match with 11 kills, while Yankowski added 10. Freshman Sarah
Peterson (Danville, N.H.) finished with 27 digs, and teammate Chia
Rowe (Brentwood, N.H.) had eight kills and four blocks.
On Saturday, KSC lost matches to host Bridgewater State College
3-0 (14-30, 13-30, 12-30) and Colby-Sawyer College 3-1 (23-30,
25-30, 30-26, 25-30). Ellis had five kills and 12 digs to
lead Keene State against BSC. Yankowski, selected
to the All-Tournament team, recorded five kills and 12 digs against
Colby-Sawyer. Florkowski had 10 kills and 13 digs, while
Ellis finished with eight kills and 14 digs.
Keene State will host a first-round Little East Conference
tournament game Tuesday (7 pm.) at Spaulding Gym. The
third-seed Owls will face sixth-seed Western Conn. State
University.
