'KEENE, N.H. 12/3/05 - The Keene State College women's
basketball team defeated Rhode Island College 75-53 in its Little
East Conference opener at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.
Keene State (4-0, 1-0 LEC) remained undefeated while RIC (4-2,
0-1 LEC) saw its three game winning streak come to an end.
Bekka Hopkins (Oxford, Mass.) scored 15 points and Sarah
Begnoche (Millville, Mass.) and Caitlin Jamiel (Cranston, R.I.) had
10 points each to lead the Owls. Stacey Morse (Lebanon, N.H.)
finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
Hopkins had 11 first half points, including a three-pointer in
the closing seconds as the Owls opened up a 46-30 lead at the
break. KSC forced 18 RIC turnovers in the first half and also
blocked seven Anchorwomen shots in the game.
Colleen Feeney (Providence, R.I.) had 12 points and Kari Geisler
(Deerfield, N.H.) added 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds to
lead RIC. Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, Me.) also added 10
points.
RIC out-rebounded KSC 50-36, but shot just 30% from the field.
Keene State travels to Williams College on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.).
