'KEENE, N.H. 12/5/05 - Sean Sullivan (Athol, Mass.) had 21
points and seven rebounds to lead Keene State College to a
88-68 victory over Southern Vermont College in a non-conference
men's basketball game played Monday night at Spaulding Gym.
Keene State remains undefeated (6-0) while Southern Vermont
drops to 2-4.
The Owls had to overcome a tough first half to post the come
from behind victory. Coming off an emotional win over R.I.
College on Saturday, Keene State found itself down by 14 points
(26-12) at the 6:54 mark before mounting a comeback. The Owls
outscored the Mountaineers 21-7 the rest of the half, tying the
score 33-all at on a Sullivan put back at the buzzer.
KSC pulled away from SVC in the second half. Leading
42-40, the pressing Owls went on a 9-2 run to go up 53-42 on a
lay-up by Nate Anderson (Westminster, Mass.) with 13:44 to play.
"I was disappointed in the way we came out," said KSC Coach Rob
Colbert. "We didn't execute very well. They had a short
bench and we tried to run and fatigue them. Fortunately, we showed
a lot of energy and fought back."
Tyler Kathan (Ludlow, Vt.) had 11 points and six rebounds and
Anderson finished with 10 points and five rebounds. David
Sontag (Mont Vernon, N.H.) dished out 11 assists.
Senior Adam Gervais (Chelsea, Me.) started in the pivot for Ben
Maynard (Nobleboro, Me.) who is out indefinitely with a broken
finger.
Douglas Hammond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a game-high 22 points and
20 rebounds and Oriol Morer (Barcelona, Spain) added 10 points and
12 rebounds for Southern Vermont.
Last season KSC edged SVC 79-78 in Bennington, Vt.
Keene State hosts Tufts University on Thursday (7:30 p.m.).
