PROVIDENCE, R.I. 2/19/05 - The Keene State College women's
basketball team concluded its regular season with a 65-54 Little
East Conference victory over R.I. College in Providence, R.I. on
Saturday.
With the victory , KSC (15-10, 9-5) finishes a program-best
third in the LEC standings and will face sixth seed Plymouth State
University in a tournament opening round game at Spaulding Gym on
Tuesday night (TBA). KSC split its two games against the Panthers
this season.
The Owls opened up a 35-28 first half lead and coasted to their
third straight conference win. Four KSC players tallied double
points. Sarah Begnoche (Millville, Mass.) led KSC with 17 points
and seven rebounds. Bri Barnes (Merrimack, N.H.) had 15 points and
seven rebounds, and Caitlin Jamiel (Cranston, R.I.) came off the
bench to score 11 points and pull down six boards.
Jamiel took over for Stacey Morse (Lebanon, N.H.) who left the
game late in the first half with a knee injury. Her status for
Tuesday's game is not known.
Bekka Hopkins added 10 points and Cathy Mechare (Falls Village,
Conn.) finished with a career high 11 assists.
Jamie Angell topped the Anchorwomen with 23 points. RIC (10-15,
6-8 LEC) will be the fourth seed in the LEC Tournament and host
UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday.
KSC split its two games against RIC this season.
