KEENE, N.H. 4/15/05 - The Keene State College softball team
banged out a combined 33 hits on the way to sweeping a
non-conference doubleheader against Lyndon (Vt.) State College
(11-3 and 6-1) at Owl Athletic Complex on Friday.
Winners of four straight, KSC improves to 15-3 while Lyndon
State falls to 3-7.
The Owls banged out 15 hits in a six inning opening game win.
Loading the bases in the second inning, the Owls scored six runs on
two infield errors, a sacrifice fly and RBI hits from Sarah
Campbell (Auburn, Mass.) and Jennifer Norman (Penacook, N.H.).
Campbell added a two-run home run, her first of the year in the
third. KSC ended the game with a five run six inning that include
Kaity Conklin's (Selkirk, N.Y.) second home run of the season, a
solo shot to right center. Erin Fuoroli (Warwick, R.I.) scattered
four hits and struck out nine to improve her record to 4-0.
The Owls collected 18 more hits in the nightcap. Taking a 1-0
lead in the second on a RBI single by Julia May (Deep River,
Conn.), the Owls added four more runs in the third inning on a
three-run home run by Melissa Scata (Medway, Mass.), her fifth of
the season, and an RBI single by Amanda Foote (Hudson, N.H.).
Ashlee Nicholson (Swanzey, N.H.) led the hit parade for the Owls
with three hits.
Kristie Braley (Derry, N.H.), who gave up four hits, fanned
seven and walked two to notch her first college win.
The Owls return to LEC play this weekend with key doubleheaders
at Eastern Conn. (Saturday) and Western Conn. (Sunday.).
