WESTFIELD, MASS. 4/7/04 - Keene State upped its record to 11-1
by sweeping Westfield State, 2-1 and 3-1, in softball action April
7. It was the Owls first games since return from Fla.
The WSC Owls (4-10) took a 1-0 lead in the opener on a
first-inning RBI single by senior catcher Liz Oliveria. Keene tied
the score on a fourth-inning RBI single by Julie McLaurin (Amherst,
N.H.), then scored the winning run in the fifth following an
outfield error.
Keene only collected four hits off tough-luck losing pitcher
Leah Peterson. Westfield rapped six hits, with Oliveira going 2 for
3 with a double.
Megan McLoughlin (Brattleboro, Vt.) (4-1) got the complete game
win for KSC. In the second game, Keene outhit Westfield, 9-4, and
jumped out to a 3-0 third-inning lead. Leadoff batter Sarah
Campbell (Auburn, Mass.) was 3 for 3 with two runs scored and
Ashlee Nicholson was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Erin Fuoroli with relief
help from Ashlee Nicholson got the win on the mound.
Westfield freshman centerfielder Christie Miller was 2 for 3
with an RBI.
KSC hosts LEC rival RIC in a doubleheader this Saturday at noon.
