'NASHUA, N.H. 09/10/05 - The Keene State College women's
volleyball team posted wins over Husson College, Newbury College,
and Rivier College to capture the Rivier College Tournament in
Nashua on Saturday. It was the Owls (3-1) first three wins of the
season, and the first victories for first-year coach Bob Weiner.
The Owls swept both Husson College (30-10, 30-20, 30-23) and
Newbury College (30-22, 30-19, 30-20) by 3-0 scores. Shelly
Ellis (Hampton, N.H.) and Brittany O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) had
eight kills each in the match against Husson. O'Bryant added
11 kills and Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls, Mass.) finished with
10 kills against Newbury College.
After dropping the first game 28-30, the Owls came back to win
30-18, 30-28, and 30-25 to beat Rivier College 3-1. Trailing
26-15 in the third game, Genna Florkowski (East Northport, N.Y.)
won 11 straight points to even the match at 26-all and send KSC on
to the win. O'Bryant and Ellis and 16 and 15 kills
respectively to lead KSC's attack against the Raiders.
Keene State travels to Amherst College on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
