'BIDDEFORD, Maine 10/14/06-The Keene State women's volleyball
team set a program record for victories (19) with a 3-0 win over
UMaine-Farmington in its first match of the day at the University
of New England Tournament on Saturday in Biddeford, Me. The
Owls broke the previous mark of 18 set in the 1983
season. KSC lost 3-0 to the host Nor'easters in its
second match.
Alexandra Toregas '08 (Chevy Chase, Md.) dominated play at the
net with 12 kills and six solo blocks as the University of New
England defeated Keene State College, 3-0, in a non-conference
women's volleyball match Saturday afternoon at the Campus
Center. Game scores were 30-21, 30-24, 30-22.
For Keene State, Kelly Yankowski '08 (Turner Falls, Maine)
and Jordan Pokryfki '10 (Wasilla, Alaska) combined for 16 kills and
28 assists. Brittany O'Bryant '09 (Merrimack, N.H.) had seven
kills and a match-high 24 digs.
Brittany O'Bryant '09 (Merrimack, N.H.) put down a match-high 11
kills to lead the Keene State College Owls to a convincing 3-0
(30-11, 30-17, 30-12) victory over the University of Maine
Farmington in a non-conference women's volleyball match hosted by
University of New England.
The win was the eighth in the last 10 outings for Keene State,
which improved its school-record win total to 19 against seven
losses. The Beavers lost for the second time on the day to
fall to 13-5. Earlier, UMF dropped a 3-0 decision to host
UNE.
Jordan Pokryfki '10 (Wasilla, Alaska) dished out 17 assists for
the winners, while Kelly Yankowski '08 (Turner Falls, Maine) had 15
of her own to go with seven kills. Defensively, Genna
Florkowski '07 (East Northport, N.Y.) dug out 19 balls.
