'KEENE, N.H. 10/29/06 - The Keene State College field hockey
team concluded its regular season with a 5-1 Little East Conference
win over Salem State at Owl Athletic Complex on Sunday.
Keene State (15-4, 11-0 LEC) will be the top seed in the
upcoming Little East Tournament and host a first round game on
Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Its Keene State's fifth LEC
regular-season title and the third time they have posted an
undefeated season in league play.
The Owls broke open a close game with four second half goals to
defeat the Vikings.
Nichole Garneau (Twin Mountain, N.H.) gave KSC an early first
half lead when she scored on a rebound five minutes into the
game. The Owls added to their lead on a goal by Marrissa
Boccaccio (West Hartford, Conn.) early in the second half.
After a goal by Salem State's Kristen Bartlett (Danvers, Mass.)
cut the Owl's lead to 2-1, KSC netted three unanswered goals to
pull a way from the Vikings. Amanda Rosenbeck (Wilder, Vt.),
Karen Robinson (Barre, Vt.), and Steph Georgevits scored goals in
KSC's second half surge. Rosenbeck, who also had two assists,
now has a team-high 12 goals this season.
Sara Joyce (Hampsted, N.H.) with two saves and Vikki Stoessel
(Derry, N.H.) saw time in goal for Keene State. Christina
Ferreira (Milford, Mass.) finished with eight saves for Salem State
(9-7, 5-4 LEC).
Owl seniors Megan Moran (Derry, N.H.), Amanda Arnold (Mansfield,
Mass.), Jess Mirisola (Tewksbury, Mass.), Garneau, Georgevits,
Rosenbeck, and Joyce were honored by to the game.
