'KEENE, N.H. 11/08/06 - The Keene State College field
hockey team concluded its season with a 6-0 shutout loss to
visiting Wellesley College in a first-round NCAA tournament game
played at rainy Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.
"I thought we were at a point where we could advance in the
tournament this year", said KSC coach Amy Watson "They were a
better team, but I thought we could have made it a better
match. It's disappointing because we had a great year."
Julia Parzych (Auburn, Mass.) had four goals and Jenn Shrull
(Windham, N.H.) netted a pair to lead Wellesley (16-4), who will
move on to play Bowdoin College in a second round tournament game
on Saturday.
The Owls (18-5) didn't have many chances to put the ball in the
net accumulating only two shots on goal all game. They were
awarded just one corner in the game.
Sara Joyce (Hampstead, N.H.) finished the game with 12 saves for
the Owls. Emily Hewitt stopped two shots to notch the shutout
for the Blues.
Keene State has yet to advance beyond the first-round in NCAA
play. They lost twice in opening round games to College of
New Jersey (1998 and 2005) and Maine-Farmington in 2004.
