PROVIDENCE, R.I. 12/2/2006 - Sarah Begnoche (Millville, Mass.) registered her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Keene State College women's basketball team to a 76-56 victory over Rhode Island College in Providence on Saturday. It was the Little East opener for both teams.
The Owls (4-0, 1-0 LEC) remain undefeated.  RIC (4-1, 0-1 LEC) drops its first game of the season.
Playing aggressive from the opening tip, Keene State scored the first 11 points of the game on the way to building up a 33-11 halftime lead.
A 9-2 spurt capped by a jumper from Danielle Graveley (Schenectady, N.Y.) pushed KSC's lead up to 18 points (57-39) with 8:36 to play.
Michele Boudreau (Readsboro, Vt.) had 10 points and Nicole Simmler (Oxford, Mass.), Jess Johannesen (Warren, Vt.), and Graveley finished with eight points each. Bri Barnes (Merrimack, N.H.) added six points, six assists, and four steals.
Kari Geisler (Deerfield, N.H.) had 10 points for the Anchorwomen, who missed all 10 of their three-point attempts.
"It's always good to win an LEC game on the road," said KSC Coach Keith Boucher. "A lot of the young players like Alyssa Sapp and Jess Johannesen stepped up in their first conference game. We just have to find a way to cut down on turnovers."
Both RIC (33 turnovers) and KSC (32 turnovers) had a hard time taking care of the ball.
Keene State returns to Spaulding Gym on Tuesday for a non-conference game against Williams College (7 p.m.).
