KEENE, N.H. 12/5/2006 - The Keene State College women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, 67-62 to Williams College in a non-conference game played at Spaulding Gym on Tuesday night.
Keene State falls to 4-1. Williams improves 6-2
The game was decided in the final minutes of play.
Trailing 61-58, Sarah Begnoche (Millville, Mass.), who tied her career high with 29 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, hit a pair of free three and made a driving lay-up to give KSC its first lead of the second half, 62-61 with 1:50 to play.
It would be their last points of the game. Maggie Miller (Wellesley, Mass.) who finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds, hit a pair of free throws to put the Ephs up 63-62. After a KSC turnover, Meghan Stetson (Clinton, N.Y.), who finished with 17 points, hit a free throw to make it 64-62. The Owls turned the ball over again, and Miller hit a jumper to give the Ephs a 66-62 lead with 20 seconds to play.
Keene State returns to LEC on Saturday when its hosts UMass-Dartmouth (1 p.m.).
