KEENE, N.H. 12/9/2006 - Bri Barnes (Merrimack, N.H.) and Sarah Begnoche (Millville, Mass.) finished with 18 points each to lead the Keene State College women's basketball team to a 77-62 Little East Conference victory over UMass-Dartmouth at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.
Keene State improves to 6-1 (2-0 LEC) UMass-Dartmouth falls to 3-6 (0-2 LEC).
The Owls scored the first 13 points of the game on the way to building a 44-31 halftime lead. Barnes scored 16of her points in the first half.
The Corsairs opened the second half with a 9-2 run, cutting KSC's lead to six points (46-40) on a jumper by Vasiliki Palantzas (Brockton, Mass.) The Owls came back to take control of the game. Kristin Degou (Newburyport, Mass.), who finished with 13 points, hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to put the Owls up 61-48 with 10:37 to play.
Michele Boudreau (Readsboro, Vt.) added 10 points. Begnoche had a team high six rebounds for KSC.
"This was our third game of the week so I thought we did a good job wearing them down," said KSC Coach Keith Boucher. "We're 6-1 at the break and playing a lot of freshmen. I just hope we continue to grow because we have a long way to go."
Palantzas had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Corsairs, who committed 28 times. UMD had a 49-36 advantage on the boards.
Keene State is off until Dec.30-31 when its hosts a holiday tournament.
