'FORT MYERS, FLA. 03/16/06 - The Keene State College softball
team improved its Spring Week record to 6-3 with shutout wins over
Fitchburg State (5-0) and Salem State (12-0) in Fort Myers, Fla.,
on Thursday.
The Owls got on the board early against Fitchburg State.
Following back-to-back doubles by Sarah Campbell (Auburn, Mass.)
and Ashlee Nicholson (Swanzey, N.H.), Julia May (Deep River, Conn.)
delivered an RBI single. KSC added two more runs in the fourth with
Emily Crompton (Concord, N.H.) getting an RBI single. In the
seventh, Jenna Patnode (Swanzey, N.H.) singled, stole second and
third, and came home on Campbell's RBI single. Campbell went
two-for-three in the game.
Erin Fuoroli (Warwick, R.I.) started for KSC, but had to leave
the game after one inning with an injury. Nicholson came on
to pitch two-hit ball over the last six innings with six strikeouts
to pick up the win.
KSC erupted for nine runs in the first inning on the way to its
five inning shutout win over Salem State. Campbell had a two
run single and Kari Gardner (Grafton, Mass.) cleared the bases with
a three-run double in the uprising.
Katie Allenson (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Kaity Conklin (Selkirk,
N.Y.), and Gardner finished the game with three hits each.
Gardner got the complete game win on the mound. She gave
up three hits, fanned eight, and didn't walk a batter.
Keene State wraps up its trip on Friday with games against
Bowdoin College and Norwich University.
