'FORT MYERS, FLA. 03/13/06 - The Keene State College softball
team spilt a pair of games in Fort Myers, Florida on Tuesday.
The Owls, now 2-2 on their trip, lost to Wheaton (Mass.) College
6-4, but came back to defeat Albion (Mich.) College 11-3.
KSC jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead against Wheaton. Jenna
Patnode (Swanzey, N.H.) doubled and came home on Melissa Scata's
second home run in as many days. After the Lyons tied the
game in the bottom of the inning, the Owls went ahead 4-2 in the
fifth on Jessica Starkey's two-run double.
KSC committed three errors in the fifth as Wheaton plated four
runs.
Ashlee Nicholson (Swanzey, N.H) took the loss for the Owls. She
gave up four runs on sevens hits.
A six run second inning highlighted KSC's win over Albion.
Trailing 3-0, the Owls scored six run on four hits with Tiffany
Underhill (Easton, Mass.), Liz Mroczka (Rocky Hill, Conn.), Scata
delivering RBI hits. Mroczka, who finished the game with three
RBIs, added a two-run single in the sixth inning.
Mroczka, Underhill, Nicholson, Scata and Julia May (Deep River,
Conn.) had two hits each for KSC.
Erin Fuoroli went the distance to pick up her second win of the
trip. She gave up three runs on four hits with three walks.
The Owls are scheduled to play three games on Tuesday;
Transylvania (KY) Univ. (9 a.m.), Framingham State (11 a.m.), and
Montclair (N.J.) State (3 p.m.).
