'SPRINGFIELD, MASS.9/2/06 - The Keene State College women's
volleyball team posted a 2-1 mark at the Western New England
College Tournament in Springfield on Saturday.
The Owls, who improve to 3-1, began the day by sweeping
Westfield State in three games (30-14, 30-19, and 30-28). A pair of
freshmen, Abby Rosen (Andover, Conn.) had eight kills and Sarah
Apold (Oakdale, Minn.) with seven kills led the offense while
senior Genna Florkowski (East Northport, N.Y.) did the job
defensively with 21 digs.
KSC came from behind to defeat Colby-Sawyer for the first time
in a five game match (22-30, 28-30, 30-23, 30-27 and 15-12).
Brittany O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) had 14 kills and
Florkowski finished with 28 digs in the match.
In the championship match, Minn.-Morris edged KSC 3-2 (30-24,
25-30, 30-27, 30-22, and 15-11). O'Bryant had a career high
20 kills, Yankowski, who was named to the All-Tournament team,
added 18 kills and Florkowski contributed 26 digs.
Keene State returns home on Tuesday (7 p.m.) for a match against
Southern Mew Hampshire University.
