'SPRINGFIELD, Mass., September 6, 2006 - Springfield College
junior forward Eileen Jenkins (Gorham, Maine) scored her first goal
of the 2006 season in the sixth minute of overtime to lift the
Pride over Keene State College this evening in non-conference
action at Benedum Field.
Senior midfielder Amanda Rosenbeck started the scoring in this
one, netting a shot in the 27th minute of play (26:24) off a feed
from classmate Jess Mirisola to give the Owls (1-2) a temporary,
1-0 lead. Keene State would take its 1-0 advantage into the half.
The lead would not last long for the Owls once the second half
started, as sophomore Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.) scored her
third goal of the season, an unassisted score, in the 39th minute
of action (38:38) to tie the score at one apiece. Even though SC
out-shot Keene State by a 26-7 margin in the two halves, regulation
ended with the score still knotted at one.
As the Pride continued to dominate on its end of the field in
the overtime period, SC finally broke through in the 76th overall
minute of action (75:36), as Jenkins broke through a scramble in
front of the Keene goal to net her first score of the season. With
the win, the Pride improves to a perfect 3-0 on the young season.
Keene State returns to Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday (1:30
p.m.) for an LEC game against Fitrchburg State.
SC will next travel to Middlebury College for yet another
non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon, September 12th, in a
4:00 p.m. start.
